FORUT (a
Norwegian-based NGO) has long experience with development
aid in Sri Lanka, which is one of the most adversely affected
countries after the Tsunami disaster. An emergency relief
operation started helping people on the first day of the
disaster. During the first ten days more than 50 000 people
have benefited from FORUT’s
emergency assistance.
The first of four Scan-Water Purification
Units was in operation on 6 January delivering safe drinking water to
approx 5.000 homeless people in Batticaloa. People in the
Ampara-district on the south-east coast, Hambantota, Killinochchi
and Vanni-region have also been supplied with safe drinking
water. Locations are chosen in cooperation with the official
Water Authorities of Sri Lanka.
Water Storage Tanks, consumables and Nerox Emergency
