Hygiene and sanitation in Kenya

kenya Hygiene and sanitation project in Turkana District in Northern Kenya. The Project was funded by the Norwegian Government and UNICEF put it into action under the name WASH (Water Sanitation Hygiene).

A group of women were trained in better hygiene routines and use of Nerox drinking water filters. These women were sent to train their own new groups (relatives, in-laws). The networking effect was immense. Later the new idea of social marketing was launched. Through songs, drama and competitions about the simple rules of better hygiene including the whole village even more people were involved.

UNICEF has evaluated the project and it is likely that the project will expand to new villages.
