Community Water System - Development

Scan-Water started applying our know-how from emergency and disaster situations to development projects and this has been received with great interest in many countries. The authorities in these countries see this simple and reasonable technology as a good solution enabling them to utilize surface water as an additional resource in overcoming the challenge of supplying safe drinking water to smaller rural communities.

Community Water System (CWS)

EmWat Kit 4000, originally developed as a water supply system for rapid deployment in emergency scenarios, has now evolved into a Community Water System (CWS), suitable for use in permanent and formal situations. We deliver a concept that includes hardware, installation and training. Community involvement is a key element and therefore a water committees are nominated consisting of two technicians, a treasurer and water committee responsible in every village. In order to assure sustainability we suggest that the water committee should sell the water (at a very low cost) in order to cover expenses for chemicals, diesel and maintenance. Household Water - Point Of Use filters

Far too many people are still drinking polluted water from rivers, lakes and unsafe wells. How water is treated within the household has a significant influence on the health status of the family members. Nerox drinking water filters have been used in families in Africa and Asia with very positive results. Nerox filters have been adapted easily. It is important for the user to see the difference with unsafe and safe water, which is the case with Nerox filters and that helps people to understand the meaning of safe drinking water.

Scan-Water is proudly involved in interventions that can lead to dramatic improvements in drinking water quality and reductions in diarrheal disease. Scan-Water is a participant of WHO's international network which is promoting household water treatment and safe storage (HWTS).  http://www.who.int/household_water/en/

Schools and Clinics

Scan-Water's School Water Project is a custom designed program for providing safe drinking water and better hygiene for school children in their local environment. Schools and Clinics warrant specialized products and specialist personnel, and it is in this field that we emphasize that water, sanitation and health perspectives are essential for the children growing up.

The goal is to teach children the importance of safe drinking water and how to prevent contamination and spreading of disease with simple hygiene routines. These are tools they need to live a healthier life. By providing school children with safe drinking water as well as food their health will improve and along with that, their learning ability and motivation to study will be higher. This is vital for the future, not just for their families but the whole economy. Children are our future.

Nerox Institution kits and Family kits have been used in schools and clinics e.g. in Sudan, South-Africa, Kenya, and Afghanistan.
